MD - Cloud Atlas

Flawed but extraordinarily ambitious the Wachowski siblings prove again that the can have a stab at anything. One day it will all come together for them - but not here. A big narrative it deserved a big canvas yet the unevenness of the scale and scope of the storylines makes it a curious experience.

The six narratives - smartly interlinked with some excellent editing - vary in their interest and resonance to each other. Most jarring however was that device - same actors different characters. Whilst they were all having big fun in the dressing up box it detracted from the story. A more nuanced director could have used the traits, movement and mannerisms of different actors to align the characters.

That said fair play for trying.
