After a
disappointing second outing, IM3 returns to a character driven formula. Tony
Stark’s existential crisis is lived out through a number of top set pieces with
the villain pairing of the ever-reliable Guy Pearce and a fully committed Sir
Ben mirroring his own duality.
There are laughs,
spills and a beat-em-up finale that drags a bit but its all good natured and
sits firmly within the spirit of Marvel comics which often take us to dark and
difficult places to examine the counter personas of its heroes.
With everyone
treating the material with the reverence it deserves IM3 probably rates the
best so far.
And a ‘smash’ing
post credits sequence too.
8/10
